These are the keywords you may try to analyze when deciding on your Santorini tour and get puzzled at the end! Santorini is a small island, offering though countless options for land or boat tours. Here are some guidelines and tips that may help you demystify all that "hot" keywords:

Volcano: Sometimes referred to as "Nea Kameni" (i.e. the bigger of the 2 volcanoes), this is an active volcano (last eruption took place at 1950 A.D.) and is located in the sea at the centre of the caldera. Many tours include the volcano in their programs, so you can walk on the old path and see the fumes coming out of the active crater.

Hot Springs: One can find many hot springs all around Nea Kameni and Palea Kameni. The most popular ones are those of Palea Kameni that contain sulfur and the temperature is constantly 35 Degrees Celcius (95 Fahrenheit). Some private trips go just across at the Hot Srpings of Nea Kameni. After the walk on the volcano, a mud bath will both relax you and gives you energy for the rest of the tour. It has been proven that minerals contained in Hot Springs can be healing for diseases such as arthritis, rheumatisms and others.

Thirasia: That's a tiny beautiful island once being connected with Santorini. Time has freezed there and all aspects of live follow the old traditional rhythms. Picturesque fishermen ports, small family tavernas, white small houses carved on the stone, narrow paved streets compose a fascinating scenery. Usually included in the 6-hour (or more) tours, Thirasia is a key point to realize the history of Santorini and experience moments of real Greek life.

Oia: One of the best preserved villages of Greece, Oia has been famous for its sunset. However, what many guides forget to say is that -probably- the best picture of the sunset is the red colors houses get when the sun slowly sinks in the waters. Oia is a classic destination for many tours: bus tours, boat excursion and private land tours. Depending on the tour, apart from seeing the sunset, you might have time to hang around in the village and make shopping.

Santorini boat tours

One more of Santorini boat tours has opened up its booking plans! This is the classic 6-hour "Santorini caldera tour", which will start on April 1t, 2009!

The traditional wooden will depart from the Old Port of Fira at 10:30 and the first stop will be at the volcano for 1.5 hours. Along with the experienced guide, you can reach the active crater and touch the hot stones of magma. On the top of the crater, you will have the chance to take pictures of the view of the Caldera islands.

Then, the boat will head to the Hot Springs, where you can swim in the healing waters for 40 minutes.

Next destination is Thirassia, a little island just accross santorini. This is the best example of how Santorini was hundreds of years ago. You can have your lunch down at the fishermen's port or visit the traditional settlement of Manolas.

At the end the boat stops for a while in Oia in the port of Armeni for those who stay in Oia and wish to end their cruise there. The rest of the passengers continue to the old port of Fira.

Hint: Even if you don't stay in Oia, you can disembark there, see the sunset from the village and go back by public transportation.

Santorini boat tours just started! Every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, you can join the Volcano and Hot Springs Tour. The cruise starts at 11:00 from the Old Port of Fira and you can go there on foot (it takes 20' from the city of Fira) or by the cable car (takes 3'!!!).

At first, the boat stops at the volcano, where you can walk on the path that leads to the crater. Still, today, you can observe fumes coming out from the terrain of the crater, as this is an active volcano with the last eruption taking place in 1950.

Next destination are the Hot Springs of the volcano, famous for their healing strength. The waters there are sulfurous and have a constant temperature of 40 degrees Celcius! Don't forget to take your swimsuit to enjoy a relaxing bathe!

2009 hydrofoil and catamaran schedules to Mykonos or Heraklion (Crete)

Greek domestic ferry schedules and pricelists are usually released by the shipping companies one - two months before sailing. We expect the schedules for the summer to be released around April/May 2009.

The schedules to Mykonos tovand Heraklion (Crete) operate from mid-April (Easter time) to mid-October daily by fast catamaran ferries.

Hellenic Seaways, which operate the specific route, have not released their ferry schedules so far. Sea Jets company who also ran the route last year from the port of Rafina have announced preliminary schedules and the approval by the Ministry of Mercantile Marine is awaited before they are finalized and released for booking. We expect schedules for Easter (13-26 April) to be available in the middle of March. As soon as they are announced by the shipping companies, they will be published in our website and online booking possibility will be available.

Some companies publish the whole year's schedules. Already available are the schedules of Blue Star Ferries going to Cyclades and the Dodecanese, Minoan Lines and ANEK lines from Athens to Crete (Heraklion and Chania).

Santorini organized tours for 2009!

Hello to all!

Today was announced the schedule for some of our organized tours for 2009. So, on March 15 starts the three hour tour " Volcano and Hot Springs" at 11:00 - 14:00 and the 14:00 - 17:00 tour starts at April 1st. This tour includes a stop on the little dock of the famous Volcano, where you will walk towards the top of the island and a 50-minute stop for a healing swimming in the suplhur springs of the volcano.

Also on the April 1st starts the very famous six hours tour " Caldera roundtrip with the traditional sailing boat". The tour includes the walk on the volcano, swimming at the hot springs and a stop for two hours in Thirassia for nice walks, swimming and lunch in the little port of Korfos or in the traditional village Manolas. On the way back, the boat stops just for a few minutes in the port of Armeni in Oia. If you wish, you can leave the group here and visit the village of Oia , famous for its breathtaking sunset.

Winter hotels in Santorini

For those who live in Santorini during the winter months, January and February may be the most “quiet” months of the year. However, Santorini still offers a lot to the visitor; first of all, a lot of sunshine: All the photos you see at professional photo albums have been taken during winter to take advantage of the much desired smooth and gentle light. In general, the weather conditions are nice with north winds, mild temperatures and a few rains.

The museums and archaeological sites remain open and the public transportation operates normally. The airplanes and boats run smoothly and connect Santorini with Athens and other islands. There are at least 2 boats and 3 airplanes per day to Athens.

To accommodate the visitors, many hotels are open all year round in Santorini and are spread all around the island. Family hotels, boutique and luxury hotels, studios and apartments offer good rates and nice views to the Caldera.

To name a few, in Fira (the capital of Santorini) you can find Nefeles Suites and Hotel Loucas on the cliffs of the caldera. Both hotels offer fantastic views to the sea and the famous sunset. In addition, here you can stay Pelican Hotel and Costa Marina Villas which do not face the Volcano, but are located in the centre of the city, so you are close to all the hot-spots! EasyJet have put their summer timetable from London (Gatwick) on sale for 2009, and this includes four new routes. They will begin flying to Larnaca at the end of March 2009, and from May 2009 they will also add flights to Santorini, Naples and Dubrovnik.

Commenting on the new flights, David Osborne, easyJet's regional general manager for the UK, said that the airline had "grown dramatically" from its Gatwick base.

"Today's announcement will further strengthen our position at London Gatwick; which is our biggest single airport base," he said.

London - Santorini direct air-line connection is a significant step to Santorini's air-line transportation expantion and it is expected by Santorini with special interest, as it will cover the british visitor's as well as the local resident's needs."
